Soil Moisture Retrieval Using SAR Backscattering Ratio Method during the Crop Growing Season

نویسندگان

چکیده

Soil moisture content (SMC) is an indispensable basic element for crop growth and development in agricultural production. Obtaining accurate information on SMC real time over large areas has important guiding significance yield estimation production management. In this study, the paper reports retrieval of from RADARSAT-2 polarimetric SAR data. The proposed algorithm includes vegetation correction based a ratio method roughness optimal method. Three description parameters (i.e., RVI, LAI, NDVI) serve as descriptors parameterization algorithm. To testify result algorithm, water cloud model (WCM) was compared with calibrated integrated equation (CIEM) employed to describe backscattering underlying soil. improve accuracy retrieval, CIEM optimized by using parameter normalization reference incidence angle. Validation against ground measurements showed high correlation between measured estimated when NDVI serves descriptor (R2 = 0.68, RMSE 4.15 vol.%, p < 0.01). overall performance better than that WCM. It demonstrates operational potential estimate wheat fields during growing season.

Has Sar Failed in Soil Moisture Retrieval?

The potential of Synthetic Aperture Radars (SARs) for measuring soil moisture has been recognised about 30 years ago, but still today the search for suitable sensors and widely applicable soil moisture retrieval algorithms is on-going. Because it is now important to find new directions in SAR soil moisture research, the current state of the art in SAR technology and methodological issues must b...

Retrieval Bare-soil Moisture Using L-band Sar

This paper reports a study of algorithm development and testing for soil moisture retrieval for bare fields using L-band SAR imagery. First-order surface scattering models predict that the co-polarization ratio is sensitive to soil moisture but not to surface roughness. Our previous study indicated that the measurement of (Jvv / (Jhh at L-band is proportional to soil moisture. In this study, th...

Historical changes of temperature and vapor pressure deficit during the crop growing season in Iran

Climate change variables have rarely been analyzed specifically for the growing season of crops. In this study, changes in minimum (Tmin) and maximum temperature (Tmax), daily maximum saturated vapor pressure (VPsat) and estimated daily VPD weighted for transpiration (VPDtran) were examined at five locations in Iran over 40 years during the growing seasons of chickpea and maize. The results of ...

Retrieval of Soil Moisture Content from Microwave Backscattering Using a Modified Iem Model

A multilayer soil model for retrieving soil moisture content using the Integral Equation Method (IEM) is investigated in this paper. The total reflection coefficients of the natural soil are obtained using the multilayer model, and volumetric scattering is approximated by the internal reflections between layers. The surface reflection terms in IEM model are replaced by the total reflection coef...

On the retrieval of soil moisture content over agricultural sites using L band SAR data

Soil moisture content is a parameter of major importance for land applications at both watershed and regional scale such as hydrology and agriculture. In the past, a vast number of experimental and theoretical studies relating radar measurements to soil and vegetation parameters have been conducted. Such studies have widely demonstrated the sensitivity of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) measurem...
